Somehow, we did it.
You are holding in your hands — or possibly scrolling through — our very first issue of the Boernean. It’s been months of planning, dreaming and assembling stories with care and an honest desire to reflect this beautiful Hill Country community in all its warmth, grit and flavor.
We didn’t set out with a particular theme in mind, but this month’s stories quietly gathered around one: resilience. Not the kind that shouts — the kind that keeps showing up, especially in small ways.
It’s there in the grounded optimism of Kimberley Blohm, president and CEO of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce. From her backyard asparagus patch to her unwavering commitment to connect people behind the scenes, Blohm models what it means to lead with heart.
You’ll feel it in the story of Jeremy Affeldt — a three-time World Series champ turned brewery owner whose “face the storm” mentality infuses Free Roam Brewing with purpose beyond the pint.
That theme feels especially poignant this month as our friends, family and neighbors continue to recover from devastating flooding. Before that tragedy struck, we had already planned to spotlight a few of the nonprofits doing vital work in our community. Now, their efforts feel even more urgent. If you’re able, I hope you’ll support them or simply share their stories.
And you’ll absolutely see that theme reflected in our conversation with Michelle Beadle. (Yes, that Michelle Beadle.) From SportsNation to Beadle & Decker on SiriusXM, FanDuel TV and beyond, this national sports personality still proudly represents the 210 with her trademark wit and zero pretense. She talks with us about why she left ESPN, what she’s loving now and how growing up in Boerne shaped it all.
Each part of this issue reflects what we hope Boernean becomes: a place to celebrate the people and stories shaping life in the Hill Country.
Is it perfect? Nope. But it’s full of heart. And hope. And a lot of coffee.
So here it is. From our small-but-mighty team to you: Thank you for reading. We’d love to hear what you think, what you want more of, and what makes you proud to call this corner of Texas home.
