The Pride of the Hill Country

It’s with humble, rooted pride that we give you the very first issue of the Boernean. The path that started with just a question — “What are folks from Boerne called?” — and ended with the publication in your hands, was, well, bumpy. There were plenty of times we doubted ourselves, looking for reasons to give up. But we kept returning to the idea. The idea felt inspired, almost compelling. “Boernean.” That was it. But there was something else. It was the Hill Country. What is it about Boerne that separates itself in the Hill Country, makes it sit a little taller within the hills? There’s something different about Boerne, something better. Boerneans don’t just hope for excellence, we expect it. It’s a very high standard to hold, but it’s a welcomed burden, because

Boerneans don’t just hope for excellence, we expect it. It’s a very high standard to hold, but it’s a welcomed burden, because we’re used to reaching for the top in everything we do.

we’re used to reaching for the top in everything we do. Our community comes together to celebrate our accomplishments, forge strong relationships and stand together in times of need. How can pride and humility go together? It should be one or the other, one virtuous, the other not. It’s a delicate balance. We know we have what it takes, but we recognize it’s not all us. There’s something much bigger that’s nudging us to push a little harder, dig a little deeper, reach a little higher. We hope you enjoy our inaugural issue. It’s our first attempt at something special. We hope to tell great stories about Boerne, Boerneans and the beautiful Hill Country, to shine a bright light on this community. We’ll fall short sometimes, sure, but we’ll get better each month. That’s just what we do. And as always, let us know how we’re doing.
